Caring for your Jewelry

Decorative Highlight
GOLD FILLED

Caring for gold filled jewelry is not too much different from caring for other types of jewelry. Here are our top tips:

  • Avoid wearing your gold filled jewelry in the ocean or swimming pools, as the salt water and chlorine can cause damage.

  • Keep your gold filled jewelry as dry as possible and away from humidity.

  • Make sure you store it individually.

  • Avoid wearing your gold filled jewelry when working out. Exposure to the salt from sweat can cause your pieces to become dull.

  • Be mindful that perfume, hairspray and hand lotions may tarnish your gold filled jewelry due to the harsh chemicals they contain.

  • Gently wipe your gold filled piece with a jewelry polishing, non-scratch cloth every now and again to promote shine.

COPPER
  • Avoid wearing your copper jewelry in the ocean or swimming pools, as the salt water and chlorine can cause tarnish or patina and change Color

  • Use a lint-free or microfiber cloth to gently wipe your copper jewelry before and after you wear it.

  • Use anti-tarnish storage bags or wrap each piece in a soft cloth.

  • Store in a cool, dry place.

  • Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals like household detergents.

  • Clean frequently-worn copper jewelry at least monthly or more if it begins to dull.

SILVER
  • Avoid wearing your sterling silver  jewelry in the ocean or swimming pools, as the salt water and chlorine can cause tarnish and darkening

  • Use a lint-free or microfiber cloth to gently wipe your silver jewelry before and after you wear it.

  • Use anti-tarnish storage bags or wrap each piece in a soft cloth.

  • Store in a cool, dry place.

  • Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals like household detergents.

  • Clean frequently worn silver jewelry at least monthly or more if it begins to tarnish

GEMSTONE, PEARL, CLAY & GLASS BEADS
  • Most gemstone, pearls, glass and clay beads can be cleaned using a washing solution of slightly tepid water and mild soap such as Ivory Dish Liquid.

  • Dip a lint free cotton cloth into the liquid to dampen and wring out excess water.

  • Using a circular motion, gently wipe the cloth over the full body of the bead to remove dust or buildup on the exterior.

  • A rule of thumb is to add your jewelry as the last item on and first item off while dressing which will diminish environmental or accidental damage.

  • We do not recommend the use of commercial "cleaning immersion solutions" . Some gemstones can absorb liquids.

  • We do not recommend the use of Commercial Ultra Sonic Cleaners as they can damage beads or metal finishes.
